About the National Nostalgia Pro Stock Association
The National Nostalgia Pro Stock Association was founded in 1994 by Jeff Johnson and Dominic Durinzi. At around that time, Dominic was drag racing an original Sox & Martin Hemi Colt, with his racing partner Dave Heitz.
Jeff had not long sold a Pro Stock Dodge Challenger that was originally raced by Billy Stepp back in the day. Jeff was also in the process of restoring and documenting the forgotten ‘wire car’, once campaigned by Don Carlton.
At this time, fortuitous friendships were formed with past and present Pro Stock participants. The whereabouts of a large majority of original Pro Stock cars were coming to light. The NNPSA resulted in an effort to bring them all together.
National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio, quickly became their home base. As a result, the track hosted many events for Pro Stock drag racing pioneers. During the mid nineties, the original cars fell into one of two categories at the time. Original cars that were updated to meet current safety standards for bracket racing, or super categories. Or cars that remained mostly original, therefore couldn’t make it down the track due to modern tech inspection standards.
The NNPSA has had a role in influencing several original cars to not only be restored cosmetically, but also, are back to their original and often much greater performance levels.
