Buy Edelbrock top end kits for your 1967 to 1991 small block Chrysler v8. This is a complete proven and tested Performer RPM power package all in the one box. Proudly made in the USA. The power package has been tested on a 418 stroker small block and made 417HP and 397lb/ft of torque. With a direct bolt onto a 340 cubic inch bottom end, with this package would make somewhere around 345+HP.
The Edelbrock top end kits power package RPM series comes complete with the following components:
- Complete intake manifold bolt kit
- Intake manifold
- Cylinder heads ready to run (Just add adjustable rocker shafts)
- Cylinder head bolt kit
- Hydraulic Camshaft and lifters
- Head gasket set
- Timing chain and gear set
You will need to add your own choice of carburetor. 750 cfm is recommended. As the intake manifold is a dual plane type, it isn’t recommended to run a throttle body EFI setup. A single plane intake works best with throttle bodies. Using a single plane intake will mean less low end power on the street. Not really ideal for your daily driver. This would be a good choice for a drag racing engine.

The video below describes how the Edelbrock power packages came about over the course of the last 30 plus years. In the 1980’s Edelbrock put together a guide showing what parts worked with each other to perform a specific power goal. Each combo was actually tested. They knew that a specific intake manifold, worked together with a specific camshaft combined with a specific set of heads, installed on a 360 cubic small block Mopar for example, would make a specific amount of horsepower.
The following video can be found, that was featured on the Edelbrock Live T.V channel on YouTube
Edelbrock Top End Kits Complete Breakdown
If you would prefer to buy each part of the Edelbrock top end kits, for your small block Mopar and piece the kit together over time, I have broken down the kit by part number for you. This way you can collect each part as and when you are ready. We’ll start with the intake manifold. Click any of the following images for product prices and shipping details.
Part number 7576 is the Edelbrock Performer RPM air gap intake manifold. It is a dual plane intake so this is perfect for a tough street engine build. There is no provision for exhaust heated chokes or exhaust crossover. Unfortunately the intake manifold is not suitable to pass EGR emissions tests. You will need to check it’s suitability for your state, city or country.
The optimum power and torque curve RPM range is between 1500RPM and 6500RPM. This is a perfect match for the Performer RPM heads and camshaft to be used. Suitable for the small block 340 and 360 engines. If you’re going to use this manifold with cast iron heads you need to check the water neck fitment and A/C compressor compatibility. No need to worry if you’re using the intake manifold as a complete kit from Edelbrock.
There are other suitable intake manifolds that can be used. The advantages of the air gap design means there is open air space between the intake runners and the hot engine oil, resulting in a cooler and denser intake charge leading to more power. This particular manifold also includes nitrous bosses for an even further tickle up of horsepower. Depending on the nitrous shot of course.
Next up is the cylinder heads, part number 60779. The heads come complete with valves and valve springs installed. There is an option to buy bare heads as well if you want to add your own aftermarket valves and springs. You can read more about the heads featured here http://quartermileaddiction.com/best-small-block-mopar-heads-on-a-budget-build-review/. I have written a full review on these heads along with the pro’s and con’s as a direct bolt on replacement for your LA engine.
Edelbrock Power Package Camshaft kit
The camshaft is considered by some as the brains of the engine. At least mechanically. As you may well know the camshaft determines when, how far and how long the valves should open and close in relation to the piston cycle. This is also what gives the engine that lumpy sound, lope or chop.
The camshaft included in the kit or recommended is a hydraulic flat tappet application. This is essentially what your stock camshaft in your Dodge 360 LA engine (or 318/340 engine) is. Just as the factory made them. The recommended Performer RPM camshaft kit specs are as follows:
- 0.488 inch intake valve lift
- 0.510 inch exhaust valve lift
- Duration or how long the valves hang open @ .50″ is 234 degrees for the intake and 244 degrees for the exhaust
- Duration as advertised is 308/318 int/exh respectively
- Optimum power and torque is made between 1500RPM up to 6500RPM
- Use with stock ratio rocker arms only
- Adjustable push rods or rocker arms are required with this camshaft kit
- Kit comes with hydraulic flat tappet lifters
As you can begin to see this camshaft option will make for a hot street strip or performance engine. Note: Click on any image for more product details.
Edelbrock TopEnd Package Accessories
Cylinder head bolt kits for Edelbrock part number 6077 or 6017 small block Mopar heads. Note the bolts will not fit stock heads. The bolts are of the highest quality and are cold formed/heat treated. The washers are included and are hardened/parallel-ground. They are also rated at 170,000 PSI. They are made of chromoly and have a black oxide finish, with a 12 point head.
They also feature a reduced head size that eliminates the need for valve train removal for head re-torquing. You can also use larger diameter valve springs as there is more room around the bolt head.
The intake manifold kit for small block Chrysler v8 engines is part number 8579. This kit is suitable for the RPM air gap intake as described. The kit comes complete with hardened washers and bolts for intake manifold installation. The bolts have a reduced hex head for easy wrench access.
The last but not least item as part of the Edelbrock top end kits for your small block Chrysler v8 is the head gasket set. Part number 7370. The complete gasket set includes everything you need from intake manifold gaskets, head gaskets, exhaust gaskets and valve cover gaskets too. They will actually fit your stock LA 318, 340 and 360 Chrysler V8 cast iron heads, intake and exhaust manifolds as well.

Edelbrock High Performance Top End Conclusion
So there you have it. A piece by piece breakdown of the complete power package for your small block Mopar. She’ll make your old car really fly. As you can tell there’s still a few things that really should be added to be sure to achieve as much horsepower and performance as possible.
It is recommended to use a 750CFM carburetor as mentioned at the start of this article. You’ll also need a good set of long tube headers with a primary tube of at least 1 5/8 inches. Long tube headers will help to scavenge or empty out the cylinders, so they can be filled with more air/fuel mix. The great thing about these extra parts is they are fairly inexpensive new. There’s plenty of used parts to choose from in the market place too. Social media is a good place to start to source good used parts.
As recommended in my best small block Mopar heads article I referred to earlier, be sure to have your new parts inspected by a reputable machine shop for possible manufacturers defects. This is for cheap insurance and piece of mind.
Be sure to follow the installation instructions thoroughly too. Here’s a link for the Performer RPM small block Mopar heads for your reference 350-60779 Edelbrock head installation instuctions
