2006 GT Mustang Supercharger Can Transform Your Car

Getting a 2006 GT Mustang Supercharger Is One of the Easiest Ways to Improve Your Car

The Mustang is a legendary car. Everyone knows of this model, and people are dreaming about it all over the world. If you own one, you probably already know how incredible it is. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t get better. A 2006 GT Mustang supercharger is the most effective way to increase the power and performance like nothing else.

How Do You Improve It?

For those looking for a way to improve the performance of their Mustang, getting a supercharger might be the best possible idea. A supercharger can get you an immediate boost in performance, and it will transform your vehicle into something from “Fast & Furious.”

Let’s take a look at some of the options you have at your disposal, why superchargers are great, and how they work.

What Are Superchargers and How Do They Work?

First, we should talk about superchargers and what they are. A supercharger is an air compressing device that serves to provide the engine with more air. Since the engine needs air to burn fuel, adding compressed air to the mixture will allow it to gain more power. It is a simple but effective way to increase performance.

Supercharger Types

There are several different types of superchargers or blowers, based on the way they work:

  1. Centrifugal superchargers
  2. Centrifugal turbosuperchargers
  3. Positive displacement pumps

Even though turbosuperchargers — or turbo, for short — are a type of supercharger, they are quite different. Firstly, a turbo is powered by exhaust gasses, and the boost you get isn’t linear. Superchargers, on the other hand, are usually belt-driven, and they are connected to the crankshaft.

As a result, the increase in power will be noticeable even at low RPM. If you are interested in superchargers, you can choose between centrifugal ones and positive displacement (i.e., PD) pumps. The latter will push the air through the unit all the way to the engine.

Ford Mustang

Ford Mustang has been one of the most iconic cars out there, and the popularity doesn’t seem to be fading. The first model of Mustang appeared in 1964, and it was derived from other models that existed at the time, Furthermore, the Mustang was a pony car, which means it was designed to look sporty and stylish while still being affordable.

The Living Legend

When the first series was released, no one could have dreamed about the impact it would have on pop culture. The original prediction was that the model would sell 100,000 vehicles each year. But, the Mustang became the most popular and most selling model by Ford in recent years. In its first year, the sales were four times larger than the company had predicted, and it took only two years to reach, for the car to hit the one-million-models-sold mark.

One of many reasons why Mustang was so important was that it inspired a series of muscle cars like Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, and many others. Until this day, there have been six generations of Mustang, and each offered something a bit different.

  • The first-generation between 1964 and 1973
  • The second-generation between 1974 and 1978
  • The third-generation between 1979 and 1993
  • The fourth-generation between 1994 and 2004
  • The fifth-generation between 2005 and 2014
  • The sixth-generation from 2015 until today

While the first generation of Mustang had a traditional muscle design with a long hood and short deck, the design evolved over the years. We can notice a significant difference in the third generation, where the Mustang looked nothing like its predecessors. Moreover, the fourth-gen was designed as a standard coupe, with nothing flashy and special.

Fortunately, the fifth generation returned to the modernized muscle design, and the Mustang became the car everyone dreamt of once again.

The Fifth Generation of Ford Mustang

Since we are talking about 2006 Mustangs, we should take some time to see what the fifth generation of vehicles had to offer.

The generation started in 2005, and there was a significant change in 2010. There are several versions of the Mustang in this generation, and they include:

  • Mustang GT
  • Shelby GT and GT-H
  • Bullitt
  • Boss 302
  • GT California Special
  • Shelby GT500

The base version of the vehicle had a 4.0L Cologne V6 engine, with 210 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. The model was in production between 2004 and 2008. The GT version had a 4.6L Modular V8, and it could offer 300 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.

The model Year hp Torque
4.0L V6 2005 to 2010 215 hp 240 lb-ft
4.6L V8 2005 to 2009 300 hp 320 lb-ft
5.4L V8 2007 to 2009 500 hp 480 lb-ft
4.6L V8 2008 to 2009 315 hp 325 lb-ft

In 2010, the series saw a major upgrade, and different models and engines were available on the market. Here, we can notice a variety in engines from 3.7L V6 all the way to supercharged 5.4L V8. In the following years, Ford introduced a couple of interesting models like the Cobra Jet from 2012.

Cobra Jet was designed for drag racing, and it had a bigger engine compared to the standard GT500. Unfortunately, it was only available to professional racers, and it is impossible to register them as road cars.

If we take a look at the second half of the fifth generation, the biggest engines you could find were sold between 2013 and 2014, and they boasted 662 hp. This was a 5.8L V8, and it was designed for Shelby GT500.

Mustang GT had a 4.6L V8 engine, and it could produce 300 horsepower. One of the things we should mention is that 2005 and 2006 Mustangs had a drive ratio of 3.55:1. However, that changed for the following year, and in 2007, the ratio was 3.31:1.

2006 Mustang GT -The Engine

As for the engine, the 2006 GT Mustang had a Modular V8 engine by Ford, and it was a 3-valve SOHC model. The engine also had a CMCV or Charge Motion Control Valve that increased air velocity even at low engine speeds. As a result, the vehicles had improved emissions and low-rpm torque.

People wanting to know how to supercharge a Mustang won’t have any problems finding a blower on the market. The only important thing is to find a supercharger designed for this type of engine and this series of Mustangs. Getting a supercharger can give you a significant boost in performance, and there are models that offer more than a 70% increase in horsepower.

That means that the engine will have over 500 horsepower after you install a Ford Mustang supercharger. It is more than obvious why so many people are interested in blowers, and it is an excellent opportunity for you to breathe new life into your vehicle.

Are 2007 Mustang GT Superchargers Different?

While we mentioned before that there are differences between 2007 and 2006 Mustangs, that doesn’t apply to the engine. Both models sport a 4.6L Modular V8, which means that you can use the same supercharger on either of these vehicles.

Usually, superchargers you can find on the market will work for any Mustang GT between 2005 and 2009. Naturally, the reason for that is that all of these vehicles share the same engine.

So, as long as your Mustang is manufactured between 2005 and 2009 and has a 4.6-liter engine, you will be able to use the same supercharger. Of course, that doesn’t cover different types of blowers, and you can find many versions available on the market depending on the design, power boost, type, and so on.

2006 Mustang’s GT Supercharger Kits

While you can always get a blower independently, the safer option is to go for a supercharger kit. These kits include all the necessary parts for the installation, and you won’t need to worry about whether you need a fuel pump, intercooler, etc.

Furthermore, supercharger kits are designed for a specific engine, so you can’t go wrong with them. In this case, you will need a supercharger for a Mustang manufactured between 2004 and 2009, and each kit will arrive with everything you need for the installation process.

If you want to finish everything by yourself, the only thing you will need is appropriate tools. The second option is to take your car to your preferred mechanic and let professionals do it for you, which is excellent for those without experience or people who don’t want to risk damaging the engine.

Why Kits

Keep in mind that supercharger kits are still the best option, even if you plan on leaving the installation to professionals. With all the necessary items, they will be able to install the supercharger as soon as they have free time. Otherwise, they will have to order missing pieces, and you will have to wait for the car much longer.

For those that have experience tinkering with the engine, the installation process may take ten or more hours. It mostly depends on your skills and how fast you can follow the instructions. The majority of manufacturers will provide the installation guide, so all you need to do is follow the step-by-step instructions.

Some of the things you can expect to arrive in the kit are intercoolers, fuel injectors, bypass valves, computer programmers, and so on.

Do You Own an ‘06 or ‘07 Mustang GT? Cheap Superchargers Are Available

Speaking of price, it mostly depends on the type of blower you get. A general rule is that Whipple superchargers are pricey, and there are numerous reasons for that. Firstly, they are made in the U.S. The tolerance needs to be quite high, which means that each blower needs to be precise and as perfect as possible. The more precise something is, and the better the materials are, the higher the price will be.

Consider Your Needs

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Whipple superchargers are your only option. It all comes down to what you are trying to achieve with your Mustang. You can always go for a Roots-type supercharger, centrifugal, or standard twin screws. Each model comes with its own advantages, and it is completely subjective which one is the best.

What to Get?

If you are not willing to spend a fortune on a supercharger, you still have plenty of different options. Keep in mind that just because some models are cheaper, it doesn’t mean that they are bad. You can easily find an affordable supercharger that will give you more than a 100 horsepower boost. While it is not as impressive as other models that can give twice as much, it is the cheapest possible option.

Once again, it all comes down to your personal preference. Some people are just looking for a slight boost in hp, and having an additional 100 hp will do the trick. For others, getting a full kit that offers a 75% boost in hp is a perfect choice.

Having A Supercharger Installed In Your Mustang GT Will Be Fun!

Supercharging your Mustang can be so much fun. There is a reason why you can even find models with supercharged engines on the market, and there are no downsides to the process. The installation doesn’t require you to cut anything, so it’s a relatively quick and easy install.

Since the installation and modifications are not permanent, you can always remove the supercharger and return the vehicle to the stock state. But the truth is, no one will ever do it. Even if you go for the cheapest supercharger, you will still get over 100 hp! And that’s just the beginning. Similar results can be had with a 2015 Mustang GT supercharger too.
