About the National Nostalgia Pro Stock Association
The National Nostalgia Pro Stock Association was founded in 1994 by Jeff Johnson and Dominic Durinzi. At around that time, Dominic was drag racing an original Sox & Martin Hemi Colt, with his racing partner Dave Heitz.
Jeff had not long sold a Pro Stock Dodge Challenger that was originally raced by Billy Stepp back in the day. Jeff was also in the process of restoring and documenting the forgotten ‘wire car’, once campaigned by Don Carlton.
At this time, fortuitous friendships were formed with past and present Pro Stock participants. The whereabouts of a large majority of original Pro Stock cars were coming to light. The NNPSA resulted in an effort to bring them all together.
National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio, quickly became their home base. As a result, the track hosted many events for Pro Stock drag racing pioneers. During the mid nineties, the original cars fell into one of two categories at the time. Original cars that were updated to meet current safety standards for bracket racing, or super categories. Or cars that remained mostly original, therefore couldn’t make it down the track due to modern tech inspection standards.
The NNPSA has had a role in influencing several original cars to not only be restored cosmetically, but also, are back to their original and often much greater performance levels.

You probably already know by now that nostalgia drag racing classes are absolutely huge today. We’ve covered a few classes in other posts in this blog. See this post here for further reading and drag racing history http://quartermileaddiction.com/
Jeff played a significant role in bringing Mopar Nostalgia Super Stock drag racing to the forefront in the nineties, and many new cars are still being built to this day. This has resulted in later model big tire Pro Stockers. A large majority of fully restored and documented cars have since greatly increased in value. Understandably to the point where it’s too much of a risk to race the cars at full potential.
This has paved the way for tribute cars or period correct cars to be built and raced. The NNPSA has refined their rules to encourage new builds. They have also secured many facilities across the nation enthusiasts, fans and racers can come together to relive the glory days of Pro Stock.
In 2018 Ron Kirkpatrick is now leading the way. Along with Mark Pappas and Mike Ruth, the guys have expanded the NNPSA into a world class organisation.
